Other types of entertainment range from street performances to theater.

The Diana Wortham Theater regularly hosts the Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance, Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre, Asheville Lyric Opera and WNC Jazz Society, as well as many other special performances.

Great theater can also be seen at the Asheville Community Theater and the North Carolina Stage Company. Both perform plays from national writers and locals.

The Fine Arts Theatre brings many independent and art films to town. With the Blue Ridge Motion Pictures studio and several resident movie stars, our cinematic credentials run deep. The Asheville Film Festival, much of which takes place at downtown venues, also bolsters the scene’s credentials.

Less organized entertainment can be seen on the weekends at two main spots. A drum circle convenes at Pritchard Park every Friday night, while circus performers, musicians and other street performers show their stuff at the intersection of Biltmore and Haywood Street, in the vicinity of the Vance Memorial.
